Elon Musk provides free Starlink internet to schools in Brazil.

Elon Musk announced that SpaceX would offer free Starlink internet to schools in Brazil, despite the Brazilian government’s decision to suspend all contracts with the company. In 2022, Musk had been in discussions with the Brazilian government to introduce Starlink services in the country, and he had also met with Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro that year.

Musk is currently under investigation for potential obstruction of justice after he disobeyed court orders to restrict or suspend certain accounts on a social media platform referred to as “X.” While X initially complied with the court orders, Judge Moraes continued to issue heavy fines, threatened to arrest employees, and cut off access in Brazil.

Consequently, the social media platform decided to lift all restrictions, risking the loss of revenue in Brazil and the potential closure of their office there. Musk emphasized that principles matter more than profit in a post on X.

Judge Moraes is known for advocating regulations that safeguard people from harmful content and misinformation in Brazil, frequently clashing with tech companies and far-right officials. He has also had disagreements with former President Jair Bolsonaro.

The CTO of X announced plans to publish information about Moraes and explain how his requests violated Brazilian law, with Musk subsequently expressing his views on the matter in an X post.
