Reportedly GM cancels base model of GMC Hummer EV EV2.

In October 2020, General Motors (GM) officially launched the GMC Hummer EV, a behemoth in both specs and size. The base EV2 trim was reasonably priced at just $80,000. It was set to feature two electric motors producing 625 horsepower and 7,400 lb-ft of torque, but had a limited range of 250 miles per charge and lacked certain features. GM had projected that the base EV2 trim would not be available until Spring 2024.

Recent reports suggest that GM has canceled the EV2 trim for the Hummer EV, a disappointing development given its status as the vehicle’s most affordable variant. This decision may further limit the Hummer EV’s appeal and sales, which have been relatively limited so far. During Q4 2023, GM reported a total of 2,028 deliveries for the Hummer EV, with 825 units of the pickup truck and 1,203 units of the SUV being delivered. The Hummer EV has historically been associated with excess, especially in its previous combustion-powered form.

The cancellation of the EV2 trim may impact the vehicle’s future and market positioning, potentially maintaining its status as a niche-focused product.
