Renault unveils €25,000 small EV Renault 5 at Geneva Auto Show

The upcoming vehicle from Renault, priced at around €25,000, is set to offer a range of up to 400 km with the larger of two available battery configurations. This electric vehicle is the first launch from the Ampere group, Renault’s EV subsidiary, and was initially revealed in 2021. Renault managed to develop this EV in just three years, compared to the company’s usual four-year development cycles.

The launch of the Renault 5 EV comes at a time when many automakers are aiming to introduce more affordable models in the near future, particularly smaller electric vehicles targeting the European city car segment, such as the Renault 5. Renault CEO Luca de Meo emphasized the significance of this launch in the context of European industry’s need to compete with challenges from both the East and the West. This statement was made prior to the Geneva show.

Regarding the mention of Tesla’s pricing strategy in the text, the Renault CEO expressed criticism, stating that it was “destroying value for the customer.”
