Rivian is gearing up for its worldwide product launch event in March 2024, where it is expected to unveil its highly anticipated R2 electric vehicle. In order to support the launch, the company has requested the use of a portion of the Main Beach Park, providing an opportunity for the public to participate. This information comes from official Laguna Beach City Council documents.
The event will take place at the Rivian Theater, formerly known as the Laguna Beach Movie Theater. Rivian has partnered with Equator Coffees to operate the on-site cafe at the theater, and local artisans have also contributed to the space by providing goods, including Almond Surfboards. Additionally, Rivian sells its brand merchandise at the theater. While a portion of the theater is still used for showing movies, it now specifically focuses on independent films.
Rivian’s next generation of electric vehicles, starting with the R2, is expected to be more affordable and cheaper for customers. The company aims to adhere closely to the requirements of the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), which would increase its chances of qualifying for full tax incentives. Rivian’s CEO, RJ Scaringe, mentioned that the R2 will target the mid-sized SUV crossover market with a price range of $40,000 to $60,000, making it more accessible than their previous model, the R1, which starts at an average selling price of $73,000.
Overall, Rivian’s product launch event promises to be an exciting and significant moment for the company, as it introduces its new electric vehicles to the market. By offering more affordable options that align with tax incentives, Rivian aims to expand its customer base and solidify its position in the electric vehicle industry.
