Tesla Faces Another Lawsuit for Emissions from Fremont Paint Shop

The Environmental Democracy Project has filed a lawsuit against Tesla in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California. The lawsuit alleges that Tesla has been violating the federal Clean Air Act since January 2021. The non-profit is seeking an injunction to stop further emissions and civil fines of up to $121,275 per day for each day Tesla continues to violate the Clean Air Act.

In addition to this recent lawsuit, in February, Tesla agreed to pay $1.5 million in a settlement with 25 counties throughout California. This was in response to lawsuits filed by the group, which accused the company of improperly labeling hazardous waste such as diesel fuel, paint materials, lubricating oils, brake fluids, and lead-acid batteries. Elon Musk tweeted about the Environmental Democracy Project’s lawsuit against Tesla, asking for people’s thoughts on the matter.
