Lucid schedules the production of mid-size ‘Model Y competitor’ for late 2026.

Lucid Motors recently held its Q1 earnings call, during which CEO Peter Rawlinson hinted at a future electric vehicle (EV) that is expected to rival the Tesla Model Y. In response to an investor’s question about whether Lucid planned to develop an affordable EV to compete with Tesla, Rawlinson suggested that a high-volume mid-size vehicle would be crucial to competing with the EV giant. He expressed confidence in achieving unprecedented levels of efficiency for this class of vehicle and emphasized the importance of efficiency in reducing battery size and lowering costs for EV production. Rawlinson also expressed excitement about showcasing their mid-size game changer in the future.

Meanwhile, Lucid is gearing up to begin production of the Gravity SUV at its factory in Casa Grande, Arizona later this year. Overall, Lucid’s approach to the EV market appears to be focused on efficiency and cost reduction, with an emphasis on the mid-size vehicle segment.
