First ever BYD Shark pickup truck set to premiere in Mexico this month.

Chinese automaker BYD is set to introduce its new energy pickup truck, the Shark, in Mexico this month. The global debut of the BYD Shark is scheduled for May 14, 2024, and it will be pitted against electric vehicles such as the Tesla Cybertruck and the Ford F-150 Lightning. The BYD Shark distinguishes itself as a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) equipped with the Asian automaker’s innovative DMO (Dual-Mode Super Hybrid All-Terrain Off-Road Platform) technology.

This technology is a notable feature of BYD’s DMO platform, which was first introduced with the company’s Fang Cheng Bao brand. The choice of Mexico for the debut of the BYD Shark seems fitting, as the hybrid pickup truck has already undergone testing on Mexican roads. Additionally, BYD’s PHEV is expected to initially launch in right-hand-drive markets, including Australia and South Africa.
