Elon Musk Participates in AI Seoul Summit in South Korea

Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, virtually attended the AI Seoul Summit, which focuses on creating a vision for AI governance centered on innovation and safety. A report indicated that several major companies, including Google, Meta, Microsoft, OpenAI, IBM, and Elon Musk’s xAI, among others, agreed to an expanded set of safety commitments related to the development of artificial intelligence solutions at the summit. A total of 16 companies, including those based in China and the United Arab Emirates, committed to these safety standards.

This initiative is seen as setting a precedent for global standards on AI safety and is expected to unlock the benefits of this transformative technology. A tweet from Musk on May 20, 2024, confirmed his participation in the summit and photos from the event showed his virtual presence. Musk has been vocal about the potential dangers of artificial intelligence and has expressed caution regarding its development.

An open letter signed by him and others highlighted the potential disruptions to politics and the economy caused by the development of human-competitive AI systems.
