Rivian Hires Another Apple Car Veteran in Preparation for R2 Launch

VP of Engineering DJ Novotney has departed Apple to join Rivian as senior VP of Vehicle Programs, as reported by Bloomberg. Both companies have chosen not to comment on the matter, and Novotney has not responded to requests for comment. At Apple, Novotney worked on projects related to robotics, AI, and future home products under the leadership of former Apple hardware chief Dan Riccio.

Simultaneously, Laura Reinke, who will be taking up the role of VP of Product Management at Rivian, has also transitioned from Apple. Prior to joining Rivian, Reinke had experience at both Apple and Porsche. She is expected to play a significant role in the launch of Rivian’s R2 and R3 platforms, as per a recent statement from Rivian CEO RJ Scaringe.

This talent exodus may have a possible impact on Apple and Rivian’s product plans. However, Novotney expressed his excitement for this new opportunity at Rivian, stating that it was time for him to help bring to life a new range of products at the EV pickup and SUV maker.
