Tesla Model 3 Performance details revealed in MIIT catalog from Giga Shanghai

Tesla China has achieved a significant milestone in preparing for the initial deliveries of its most powerful Model 3 variant in the country. The reengineered Model 3 Performance has been officially listed in China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology’s (MIIT) catalog of upcoming vehicles, marking a crucial government approval required for its sale in the country.

According to recent reports, public feedback on the inclusion of the new Model 3 Performance in the MIIT catalog will be accepted from May 12th to 17th. This announcement comes as a confirmation that the new vehicle, produced at Giga Shanghai, is equipped with a front motor delivering 137 kW and a rear motor delivering 265 kW of power.

These specifications result in an impressive top speed of 261 km/h and an acceleration time from 0-100 km/h of just 3.1 seconds. The car is also reported to feature a ternary lithium-ion battery supplied by LG Energy Solution from South Korea, with Tesla China overseeing the assembly of its battery pack.

The MIIT catalog further provides details on the physical dimensions of the new Model 3 Performance, listing a length of 4,724 mm, a width of 1,848 mm, a height of 1,430 mm, and a wheelbase of 2,875 mm. Additionally, the starting price for the new model is set at RMB 335,900 (roughly $46,430), representing a 44% increase compared to the base model’s price of RMB 231,900 (about $32,000).

The unveiling of the new Model 3 Performance complements the existing line-up of the all-electric sedan, which initially comprised the base Rear Wheel Drive (RWD) and the mid-tier Long Range Dual Motor All Wheel Drive (AWD) variants. Notably, the new model’s launch signifies an expansion of the Model 3 range, addressing demand for a more powerful and versatile option.
