Rivian and Apple reportedly in talks about potential collaboration

Rivian and Apple are reportedly in talks about a potential partnership, with supply chain sources hinting at the collaboration. The partnership is expected to benefit both companies, allowing Rivian to enhance its upcoming R2 and R3 vehicles and providing Apple with an opportunity to deploy some of its technology from the Project Titan electric vehicle (EV) development. Apple’s EV development plans have been the subject of speculation, with reports suggesting a shift in focus towards artificial intelligence (AI) development.

This decision, made public in January 2024, indicates that Apple is now prioritizing AI over developing an EV with extensive features. A partnership with Apple could be highly advantageous for Rivian, especially as Tesla has signaled its increased emphasis on AI development and Full Self-Driving during its recent earnings call. Collaboration with Apple could enable Rivian to enhance its autonomous driving capabilities by incorporating Apple’s AI technology into its R2 and R3 vehicles.

Rivian’s progress in R2 production is notable, with plans to utilize an incentive package to expand its production facility in Normal, Illinois, and also expand R2 and R3 production in Georgia. These efforts demonstrate Rivian’s commitment to advancing its production capabilities and expanding its presence in the electric vehicle market.
