Tesla China Introduces Enhanced Autopilot Subscription Service

Tesla has recently introduced subscriptions for the Enhanced Autopilot (EAP) in China. It is widely anticipated that the company will soon also offer its Full Self-Driving (FSD) feature in the country.

The subscription options for EAP in China include a monthly plan for 699 yuan (approximately $98 USD) or a three-month plan for 1,399 yuan (approximately $197 USD). EAP in China currently offers features such as auto-steering, auto lane change, and navigate on Autopilot.

It is expected to include smart summons and automatic parking options in the future. Tesla CEO Elon Musk mentioned that the end-to-end neural net-based autonomy works effectively in various markets, and the company plans to release it as a supervised autonomy system in markets where regulatory approval is obtained, including China.

Tesla’s CFO Vaibhav Taneja also discussed the company’s plans to introduce FSD in other markets, such as China. Taneja noted that specific road rules in each market need to be considered, citing the example that in China, crossing over a solid line for a lane change is heavily fined.

He indicated that while there are actions needed to comply with these rules, they are relatively minor and do not require a complete overhaul of the system. Overall, the introduction of EAP subscriptions in China and the potential launch of FSD in the country reflect Tesla’s ongoing efforts to expand its autonomous driving features globally, while also adapting to the specific regulatory requirements of each market.
