CATL’s new LFP cell offers 620+ miles of range and ultra-fast charging

CATL has unveiled a new lithium iron phosphate (LFP) cell with impressive features. It offers 620 miles of range on a single charge and ultra-fast charging that can add 370 miles of travel in just ten minutes, based on internal tests.

The company recently unveiled its Shenxing Plus LFP battery during the Beijing Auto Show in China and plans to implement it in 50 more vehicles by the end of the year. CATL is currently focused on further improving the range and fast charging capabilities of the battery to address concerns about charging times.

CATL’s engineers have confirmed the potential of their Shenxing 4C superfast charging battery, stating that it only takes ten minutes to charge from 20% to 80%. This was verified through multiple rounds of testing.

The new cell incorporates advanced technology to increase energy density. The cathode of Shenxing PLUS utilizes granular gradation technology to achieve ultra-high compact density, while a proprietary 3D honeycomb-shaped material is added to the anode to enhance energy density and control volume expansion during charge and discharge cycles.

These details were shared in CATL’s press release. CATL’s new battery stands out for its combination of fast charging and impressive potential range, setting it apart from other batteries currently available.

For instance, the industry-leading Lucid Air offers 520 miles of range, highlighting the unique capabilities of CATL’s new LFP cell.
