Rivian teases R2 lights and silhouette, reveals details of unveiling event

A teaser posted on the automaker’s website highlights the R2’s features, resembling the flagship models with its lights and silhouette. However, a closer look at the R2 in the teaser reveals slightly smaller “stadium” headlights and a more rounded light bar. The R2 is introduced as a new take on electric adventure, with pricing, specs, and estimated delivery dates set to be revealed on March 7, 2024. Both the R1T and R1S are known for their off-road capabilities, and the R2 is expected to follow suit.

Potential competitors such as the Tesla Model Y, the Ford Mustang Mach-E, and the Hyundai Ioniq 5 are described as mostly soft-roaders. Reactions to Rivian and Scaringe’s posts have been positive, with many EV community members expressing interest in becoming Day 1 reservation holders for the R2. If priced competitively, the R2 could pose strong competition in the electric vehicle market. Buyers of the R2 would have no issues with long-distance travel, as Rivian has adopted Tesla’s North American Charging Standard (NACS), which means the R2 can tap into the Tesla Supercharger Network for charging.

This positions the Rivian R2 as a potentially favored choice in the EV segment.
