Tesla’s Giga Mexico Facility Gears Up for Increase in Nearshoring Activities

Work has officially begun on the expansion of the Monterrey-Saltillio highway, the future site of Tesla Gigafactory Mexico. Excavation work, which spans approximately one and a half kilometers along the front of the Tesla Giga Mexico location, has already commenced. Concurrently, preliminary work on the highway’s expansion has also been initiated by the local government, as part of their preparations for the anticipated surge in vehicular traffic in the area.

The arrival of Tesla in the Santa Catarina area is expected to not only bring economic benefits but also attract other companies to Nuevo León. According to Iván Rivas, the State Secretary of Economy, Tesla’s presence will mark a significant milestone in the economic development of Nuevo León.

Tesla plans to initiate production at Giga Austin, focusing on refining the production process and assembly line before commencing construction on its new factory in Mexico. The company will also implement its innovative “Unboxed Process” during the production of its next-gen vehicle. Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, has expressed the importance of manufacturing technology as a competitive characteristic for the company’s future, which will be showcased in their upcoming vehicle. The first site for this manufacturing process will be at the Gigafactory in Austin, Texas, followed by expansion to other locations worldwide.
