Tesla warns new car owners about lack of Steam Gaming support.

Tesla has issued a warning to vehicle owners that new vehicles will no longer support Steam Gaming, a feature that was initially introduced with the Model S and Model X in December 2022 as part of the annual Holiday Update. This development, which CEO Elon Musk had highlighted as significant in the Summer of 2022, is now being rolled back. The company informed the owner of a new Model X that gaming capabilities would be limited in a communication prior to delivery.

The message stated, “Tesla is updating the gaming computer in your Model X and your vehicle is no longer capable of playing Steam games. All other entertainment and app functionalities are unaffected.” It is noted that Tesla has been implementing widespread changes across its business to conserve cash.

Some of these cost-cutting measures may be affecting vehicle features, leading to speculation on Reddit about the reasons behind the removal of Steam support. The speculated reasons include lack of regular use, poor gaming experience, and battery drain. Many people believed that the integration of Steam was a strategic move aimed at enhancing entertainment during travel, especially in the context of Tesla’s emphasis on robotaxis and a complete Full Self-Driving suite.

However, it seems that Steam support will not be included in future vehicle deliveries.
