This morning Tesla updated the design center and added the long-awaited 100D models for the Model S and X.
The Model S 100D boosts range to 335 miles (EPA est) from 294 miles for the 90D. That's an increase of 14% range. Also the Model S 100D offers longer range than the P100D (315 miles) as well.
The Model X 100D boosts range to 295 miles (EPA est) from 257 miles for the 90D, an increase of of 15% range. The Model X 100D offers slightly longer range of 295 miles compared to the Model X P100D (289 miles).
The 100D option for the Model S and X is an additional $3000 above the 90D option, which continues to be offered.

Tesla to Stop Practice of Limiting Power When Owners Use Launch Control
"Based on your input, we have decided to remove all software performance reductions tied to frequent max power usage. These changes will roll out with our next software update (in about three weeks). We had put these reductions in place to proactively protect the powertrain from wear and tear. Instead, we will monitor the condition of the powertrain and let our customers know if service is needed so that we can take proactive steps, such as by replacing parts if necessary, to maintain the vehicle’s performance."
Glad to see Tesla make the right move here and not limit Ludicrous mode usage.
Model S Safety Update
As part of a recent expansion of the industry-wide recall of Takata airbag inflators, the passenger airbags in certain 2012 Model S vehicles are now affected by the recall, and Tesla will be replacing them. Although the Takata recall currently only applies to 2012 Model S vehicles located in regions of the United States designated as high humidity, Tesla will replace the passenger airbags in all 2012 Model S vehicles globally. The safety of our customers is paramount and Tesla is taking this action even though there have been no airbag ruptures or other related incidents in any of its vehicles. Although the current recall only applies to 2012 Model S vehicles, the passenger airbags of all Model S vehicles produced through late 2016 are expected to eventually be recalled. If you own a Model S produced between 2013 and 2016, your airbags are safe, and you do not need to take any action until you receive further notice from Tesla. As noted by NHTSA, customers do not need to be concerned about Takata inflators before they receive a recall notice. Nevertheless, for convenience and peace of mind, Tesla will make every effort to proactively replace the airbags of all affected vehicles even before they are recalled. This will be performed as parts supply allows, and at this time you do not need to take any action.
If you own a 2012 Model S vehicle, Tesla will contact you to schedule your replacement service. At this time there is no immediate action that you need to take.
Tesla Model S P100D runs a 0-60mph in 2.389-sec after ‘Ludicrous+’ update and throws cold water on Faraday Future
Following the ‘Ludicrous+’ software update that unleashed more power in the Tesla Model S P100d and achieved a 2.46-second 0 to 60 mph acceleration in its first test, CEO Elon Musk said that there’s actually still room for improvement and that the P100D stock could reach a 2.3-second time. As it turns, he was right since a Model S P100D just ran a 0-60mph in 2.389-second after the ‘Ludicrous+’ software update.
Quite impressive that Tesla has managed to bring down the 0-60mph time of their fastest car from 4.2 seconds in 2013 to just 2.3 seconds.

Model 3
The man who assembled Tesla's supply base
"Things will get a bit easier. Tesla has resolved some issues through vertical integration -- doing things internally. And with the launch of the Model 3, the volumes of the business will be more attractive, and I think we will see more suppliers relocate."
Former Tesla supply chain head is optimistic about the Model 3 supply chain outlook.
Did Tesla partner Panasonic just hint at new Model 3 features?
Could a new vehicle display system recently revealed by Panasonic be a foreshadowing of what Tesla has up its sleeve? Remember — Elon Musk tweeted: "Wait until you see the real steering controls and system for the 3. It feels like a spaceship." Since then, it's been radio silence. But at CES, Tesla partner Panasonic revealed a new system that featured a head-up display (HUD) and augmented reality (AR). This sophisticated HUD system is capable of projecting large virtual images in the driver’s eye line, using AR to give drivers information and even warn them of potential dangers. It replaces the traditional instrument cluster and many of the car’s physical controls.
Can't wait to see what Tesla actually has up their sleeves for a heads up unit.
Autopilot
Tesla’s crash rate was reduced by 40% after introduction of Autopilot based on data reviewed by NHTSA
As reported earlier today, NHTSA is closing its investigation of the fatal accident on Tesla Autopilot without finding any defect or issuing any recall. We now have access to the full report (embedded below) and there are some interesting key findings about the crash and Tesla’s Autopilot in general. For example, the agency reviewed data that indicates Tesla’s crash rate was reduced by 40% after the Autopilot’s Autosteer feature was introduced.
Great news for Tesla that NHTSA has closed its investigation of Autopilot and now data shows Autopilot is possibly reducing Tesla's crash rate as well.

Tesla's biggest bull on Wall Street is running again, and shares are jumping
Jonas cited four major variables in his upgrade: a successful 2017 launch of the $35,000 Model 3, with better volume production arriving in 2018; the emergence of electric vehicles as a "core trend" for big carmakers, with EVs reaching 23% of the market in 2030; the disappearance of high-tech competitors with plans to build actual cars; and a pro-US manufacturing policy set to arrive from the Trump administration.
Adam Jonas of Morgan Stanley gets back on the bull bandwagon.

SpaceX Successfully Launches Rocket, Deploying 10 Satellites
Musk later confirmed that all of the satellites had deployed, marking completion of the company’s mission. The triple success -- launch, drone-ship landing and mission completion -- was a relief and welcome start to the new year for the company. SpaceX hopes to launch 20 to 24 rockets this year, an aggressive pace given that eight missions were completed in 2016. Iridium, one of SpaceX’s largest commercial satellite customers, has signed on for six more launches, all of them scheduled for Vandenberg.
A big year ahead for SpaceX.
